Non-Abrasive Industrial Cleaning

Dry Ice Blasting

A clean, dry, non-conductive way to remove buildup from your most sensitive equipment, with no grit, no solvents, and no secondary waste to clean up afterward.

Dry ice blasting cleans and prepares surfaces without damaging the equipment underneath, making it ideal for the coolers, motors and process equipment that keep an oilfield running.

Condensers, heat exchangers and evaporators need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Cooling coils surrounded by fins plug up over time with dust and debris, causing inefficiencies and unplanned downtime. Dry ice blasting clears that buildup quickly, restoring airflow and performance without taking equipment apart.

Because the process is non-abrasive and non-conductive, it can be used safely on electric motors with no damage to the stator, windings or other delicate components. In plants and refineries it’s an effective way to clean and prepare surfaces for integrity testing, removing soot, oil and grease so equipment runs more efficiently and lasts longer.

Where It's Used

Built for the Toughest Jobs on Site

One process, a wide range of applications across your facility.

Mechanical

Service and overhaul for the rotating equipment your site runs on: engines, generators, pumps.

Electric Motors

Safe, effective cleaning with no damage to the stator, wiring or other delicate components.

Plants & Refineries

Prep surfaces for integrity testing, removing soot, oil and grease to extend equipment life.

Restoration

Quick recovery from fire and smoke damage, indoor brick and paint removal, and graffiti.

Bitumen & Tar Removal

Strip bitumen from oilfield equipment, electric motor fins and other spill areas with ease.

Mold Remediation

Reach spots inaccessible to chemicals, scraping or sanding, without harming wiring or plumbing.

The Process

How Does It Clean?

01

Supersonic Impact

Dry ice pellets are propelled at supersonic speed by compressed air toward the surface.

02

Micro-Thermal Shock

At −79°C the extreme cold breaks the bond between the coating and the substrate beneath it.

03

Debris Lifts Away

The high-pressure air stream removes the loosened debris from the surface in a single pass.

04

Clean Sublimation

The dry ice sublimates into CO₂ gas, and the surface is left completely dry, with waste simply fallen to the floor.

The CEG Difference

No Damage. No Grit. No Cleanup.

The underlying equipment surface is completely dry, undamaged and ready to return to service. The dry ice simply returns to the atmosphere as carbon dioxide gas, leaving no solvent, no media and no secondary waste behind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have Questions About Dry Ice Blasting?

Learn how dry ice blasting works, where it can be used and why it is an effective option for cleaning industrial equipment.

What is dry ice blasting and how does it work?

Dry ice pellets are propelled toward the surface using compressed air. The extreme cold helps break the bond between the buildup and the underlying surface, while the air stream lifts the loosened material away. The dry ice then sublimates into carbon dioxide gas.

Is dry ice blasting safe for electric motors and electrical equipment?

Yes. Dry ice blasting is a dry, non-conductive and non-abrasive process, making it suitable for cleaning electric motors and other sensitive components without damaging stators, windings or wiring.

Will dry ice blasting damage the surface being cleaned?

The process is non-abrasive and is designed to remove contamination and buildup without damaging the equipment surface underneath. This makes it useful for delicate fins, motors and industrial equipment where abrasive cleaning methods may not be appropriate.

What types of equipment can be cleaned with dry ice blasting?

CEG uses dry ice blasting for applications including fin fan coolers, condensers, heat exchangers, electric motors, plant and refinery equipment, bitumen and tar removal, restoration work and other industrial cleaning applications.

Does dry ice blasting leave any secondary waste or residue?

The dry ice itself leaves no blasting media behind. It sublimates into carbon dioxide gas after impact, so there is no grit, solvent or secondary blasting material to clean up. Only the contamination removed from the equipment remains.

Can equipment be cleaned without taking it apart?

In many applications, yes. Dry ice blasting can clean buildup from coolers, fins and industrial equipment in place, helping reduce the amount of disassembly required and allowing equipment to be returned to service sooner.

What types of buildup can dry ice blasting remove?

Dry ice blasting can remove dust, debris, soot, oil, grease, bitumen, tar and other industrial buildup. It can also be used for certain restoration and surface-preparation applications.

Where does CEG provide dry ice blasting services?

CEG is based in Drayton Valley and serves Central Alberta, with service extending across Alberta and other parts of Western Canada depending on the project requirements.
